BLAM UK ( Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health UK) is offering free, men-only, racial wellness group therapy workshops in April. The workshops are meant to help individuals heal from racial trauma.
To sign up, you must be a Black person living in the UK and aged 18 and over.
Racial trauma under the spotlight
So what exactly is racial trauma?
Racial trauma refers to the mental and emotional injury resulting from racial bias and ethnic discrimination, racism, and hate crimes. The current discussions on racism have put racial trauma under the spotlight.
For example, questions have been raised on whether it is OK to keep sharing videos and images of police brutality towards Black people on social media. There have been calls for people to stop sharing the videos as they can perpetuate the trauma faced by Black communities. Others have argued that these videos have been essential in the call for change. What is not in dispute is that they might harm the mental health of some.
