BLAM UK Offers Racial Wellness Therapy Workshops For Men

Reading Time: < 1 minute

BLAM UK ( Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health UK) is offering free, men-only, racial wellness group therapy workshops in April. The workshops are meant to help individuals heal from racial trauma.

To sign up, you must be a Black person living in the UK and aged 18 and over.

Racial trauma under the spotlight

So what exactly is racial trauma?

Racial trauma refers to the mental and emotional injury resulting from racial bias and ethnic discrimination, racism, and hate crimes. The current discussions on racism have put racial trauma under the spotlight.

For example, questions have been raised on whether it is OK to keep sharing videos and images of police brutality towards Black people on social media. There have been calls for people to stop sharing the videos as they can perpetuate the trauma faced by Black communities. Others have argued that these videos have been essential in the call for change. What is not in dispute is that they might harm the mental health of some.

Racial wellness workshops

BLAM UK is delivering online group therapeutic workshops led by Black therapists to help their community heal and deal with racial trauma.

In April, you can join four men-only Saturday sessions starting on 3rd April ending on 24th April. The sessions will run from 12 pm to 1.30 pm.

The four sessions will cover the following;

  • The effects of Black trauma
  • Understanding and dealing with racial microaggressions
  • The duality of being both Black and British
  • And how to use creativity as a therapeutic means of liberating one’s self from the effects of racial trauma via poetry therapy

You can sign up for the workshops here.
