After the usual last-minute u-turns and indecision from the government, we are in lockdown again. For many of us, all we can think of is how we can get through another lockdown.
Here are some tips on things to think about.
1. A lot to learn from previous lockdowns
Firstly, as this is lockdown 3.0, we’d first of all hope that there have been many lessons on what to expect and what worked and what didn’t for you. This is no time to re-invent the wheel but to modify and perfect it. Keep all the things that worked for you before, don’t discard them.
2. Stay connected
Staying in touch with people is important. Make use of and moderate the use of technology to stay in touch with people. You don’t have to be on Zoom all the time just because it’s lockdown. Make a phone call, text, write an email or take pleasure in rediscovering paper an pen for that elaborate letter you haven’t sent in a while.
3. Keep Moving
The days are colder, wetter and shorter than in the first lockdown but you’ve got to keep moving. Wrap up and take a few minutes outside if you can, remembering to observe all the guidance to stay safe from COVID.
As you are aware, exercise is important to keep you physically healthy and boost your mental health.
A bit of daily outdoor time will help break the dullness of looking at your own walls all the time. Get yourself some tips on keeping moving.
4. Glorious Food
This lockdown has hit us when many of us tend to get on diets after the overindulgence over the Christmas period. Yes, it’s cold, and you might not feel like a salad, but you need to keep an eye on what you are eating. A healthy diet isn’t about just switching over to eating just salads. Get yourself some tips on a healthy diet.
5. Vitamin D
Top up your vitamin D to beat the downsides of staying indoors and the winter darkness. Vitamin D is important to keep your bones healthy.
It is well documented that between October and early March we tend not to get enough vitamin D from sunlight. It is therefore important to make sure you get it in other ways, especially if you have darker skin.
You can get vitamin D from some foods or through supplements. If you are to take supplements, check the guidance on vitamin D as you also don’t want to overdo it.
6. Keep your resolutions/plans
Lastly, as this is the time of year where many of us would have set up plans or new year’s resolutions, here is some great advice:
